Exposure information is a critical element in various regulatory and non-regulatory frameworks in Europe and globally, to ensure safe environments, to reduce health risks to humans and move towards a safe, secure and sustainable future. In 2018, during a Workshop in Dortmund, a wide range of exposure science stakeholders in Europe agreed to build, as matter of urgency, a much needed European Exposure Science Strategy 2020-2030, and related community of practice. While progress in chemical safety research in recent years has been impressive, an obvious gap between scientific ambition on the one hand and awareness of policy requirements on the other prevents a more widespread application of latest science findings in current regulatory policy programs. Risk assessment agencies and regulatory bodies, at EU and national level, find themselves confronted with knowledge, information and methodological gaps, and are challenged to advice the policy makers on the need and the direction/scope of new or existing regulatory frameworks. As regards scientific data, the timely uptake into policy processes and vice-versa, i.e., consideration of policy needs whilst defining scientific priorities in chemical risk assessment, could still be significantly improved. In this session, global and European trends, and refinements needs and recommendations as part of the strategic cycle will be prioritized completing this thematic roadmap and timelines. Both platform presentations and posters are welcome.
