Domain of Expertise 3: Exposure Modelling

This Domain of Expertise provides an overview of the mathematical and computational foundations of exposure modelling for human health and environmental assessments. Participants will learn how exposure models link sources of hazardous substances to human and ecological receptors, and explore key model families, including occupational, consumer, and environmental multimedia models. The session introduces core concepts such as source-to-dose pathways, compartmentalisation of environmental media, and tiered assessment approaches, while addressing model selection, parameterisation, uncertainty, and the integration of modelling outputs into exposure and risk assessment frameworks.
